Many organisations start out using the QuickFIX Engine as it is open source and easy to access. However, it is not performant, and eventually companies will realise that the cost from the lack of performance exceeds the savings of using an open source solution.
Although not really a fair comparison (as QuickFIX isn’t a designated low-latency FIX Engine) benchmarks run both using QuickFIX and Chronicle FIX reveal a striking difference. Without a lot of tuning on commodity hardware, the performance was improved with 95% by Chronicle FIX. The test measured the end-to-end latency obtained when handling 10,000 New Order Singles per second.
