Transforming FX Infrastructure for a Major Canadian Bank

February 19th, 2026

Results Snapshot

Client-invisible migration achieved, delivering zero downtime and no impact on execution quality during platform transition

Microsecond-level performance at scale, with sub-4µs round-trip latency (99.9th percentile) and millions of messages per second

Operational efficiency dramatically improved, eliminating manual routing through automated workflows and real-time FIX management

Challenge

Scalability and Operational Limits

The institution faced a set of challenges:

  • Manual workflows — with no intelligent routing layer between clients and pricing partners, operations teams were required to intervene frequently, creating latency, risk and operational overhead.

  • Zero-impact migration — the bank mandated a transition with no observable change to client behaviour: no downtime, no disruption and no difference in execution quality

These constraints limited scalability, increased operational burden and restricted the bank’s ability to evolve its FX offering.

Solution

Collaborative Development and Controlled Integration

Chronicle worked in close partnership with the bank’s engineering and operations teams to design and implement a modernised FX routing platform. The engagement followed a collaborative, low-risk delivery model:

  • Joint architecture and design — Chronicle and the bank co-developed a solution aligned with long-term goals for performance, observability and maintainability.

  • Incremental deployment — legacy and Chronicle components were run in parallel, allowing deterministic behaviour to be validated before full cutover.

  • Embedded expertise — Chronicle engineers worked alongside internal teams to transfer best practices and ensure the bank could operate the platform independently.

The final deployment included:

  • Chronicle FIX Engine and FIX Router

    • High-performance routing of orders, market data and RFQs.

    • Sub-4-microsecond round-trip latency for New Order Single messages at the 99.9th percentile.

    • More than one million messages per second per core, with deterministic behaviour under load.

    • Automated routing that removed dependence on manual operational workflows.

  • Chronicle FIX UI

    • A complete FIX-management platform providing real-time visibility, control and diagnostics for FIX sessions.

    • A modern operational interface designed to reduce intervention and accelerate issue resolution.

This collaborative development and controlled integration approach ensured the solution fitted seamlessly into the bank’s trading ecosystem.

Results

Accelerated Adoption and Embedded Best Practices

The modernised platform delivered immediate and long-term value:

  • Stability and resilience — continuous FX flow with minimal intervention, supported by deterministic and fault-tolerant architecture.

  • Operational efficiency — operations teams gained a powerful interface for managing FIX sessions, enabling faster diagnostics and eliminating manual routing steps.

  • Client-invisible migration — the incremental rollout strategy ensured zero disruption to end clients during the transition.

  • Performance at scale — microsecond-level latency sustained across thousands of connections and millions of messages per second.

The collaborative delivery model also accelerated adoption, embedded best practices and empowered the bank’s team to maintain and evolve the system.

Future Positioning

With Chronicle technology in place, the bank is positioned to expand its FX capabilities while maintaining market-leading performance. The platform’s modular architecture, low maintenance overhead and scalability provide a strong foundation for supporting new clients, additional asset classes and future trading demands.

Modernising FX infrastructure works best when technology delivery goes hand-in-hand with a strong, transparent partnership. We partnered closely with the bank’s engineering team to design, validate, and roll out enhancements and customisation to our routing platform incrementally.
